Oakville, Ontario: Katherine Bassett, a 2000 graduate of Sheridans renowned Illustration Program, is currently enjoying a six-month study tour of Europe, thanks to a grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. Ms. Bassett was awarded $10,000 in an international competition administered by the Foundation, which is based in Montreal. Ms.Bassett is the second Illustration Program grad to receive this prestigious award, the other being John Robertson, who won in 1991. Joe Morse, an award-winning illustrator and professor in Sheridans Illustration Program, and himself a past recipient of a grant from the Foundation, applauds the Foundations mission. They really want to foster artistic development and support young people in their personal and professional growth as artists. Professor Morse used his own award to study and live in Florence and Japan for several months, and cites the experience as vital to his development as a creative artist. The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation was founded in 1955 by C.G. Greenshields, Q.C. in memory of his mother. The stated purpose of the Foundation is to aid talented young artists in the early stages of their careers. Awards are limited to candidates working in the fields of painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. Sheridans 3-year Illustration Program features Technical and Interpretive specialities, and focuses on skills development in the visual rendering of scientific or artistic concepts.
